Two common degrees earned to become a US Border Patrol Agent are the Homeland Security Degree and a Criminal Justice Degree. Job requirements are strict and they are very critical when it comes to education. If you do not have any relevant work experience, a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree will be required in order for you to apply to become a GS-5. A great combination to have is a bachelor’s or master’s degree along with relevant work experience.
Criteria that must be met include: being a US citizen, holding a valid driver’s license, being under 40 years of age, having no records of felony or misdemeanor, and passing a series of physical testing and background checks. After passing the tests, you must succeed the 2-year internship that all candidates of the program are required to undergo. This will involve training and education.

Once you have been selected as a US Border Patrol Agent, you can expect an annual salary of $34,966 to $39,797 based on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website.
